Manychat Review 2026: $29 or $39, Plus Contact Fees

Manychat is a DM automation tool that answers comments and messages on Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, Telegram and, on Pro and above, WhatsApp, and it suits creators and small businesses that get more DMs than they can answer by hand. It has a free plan, paid plans start at $14 a month billed annually, the Pro plan with AI costs $29 a month billed annually or $39 month to month (checked 21 October 2026), and I score it 6.3 out of 10. My angle is the meter: since the 2026 pricing change you pay for every person who talks to your account each month, so one busy Reel can cost more than the plan itself.

Disclosure: I don’t earn a commission from Manychat. It runs a partner program through PartnerStack, but I haven’t joined it, so every Manychat link here is a plain link.

Sign up, or keep answering by hand?

Sign up if your Reels and posts pull in comments asking for a link, a price or a booking, and you lose sales because replies are slow. Pro on annual billing is fair value if you stay under 2,500 people a month.

Keep your money if you get a handful of DMs a week, can’t predict traffic spikes, or need fast human support when something breaks. The free plan or a cheaper rival covers light use.

Where these Manychat figures come from

I haven’t used Manychat for paid client work, so this is a research review, not a long hands-on test. On 21 October 2026 I read Manychat’s pricing page, its Terms of Service (effective 1 April 2026), its AI Supplementary Terms, two Manychat blog posts on pricing, the partner program page, Meta’s developer documentation on the messaging window, review pages on Trustpilot, G2 and Capterra, two pricing trackers, four Fiverr gigs and the pricing pages of two rivals. The scores:

AreaScoreReason
Ease of use8/10Visual flow builder and templates; Capterra reviewers rate ease of use 4.4 out of 5
Output quality7/10Does comment-to-DM well, but some reviewers report keyword triggers that misfire
Value for money6/10Real free plan and a fair annual Pro price, offset by monthly pricing and contact overages
Trust and support4/10Trustpilot 2.1, no replies to negative reviews, and refund rules that contradict each other
Overall6.3/10Average of the four (6.25), rounded

Manychat, Inc. is a Delaware corporation with its principal office in West Hollywood, California, according to its Terms. It started out automating Telegram chats in 2015, and in June 2025 it raised a $140 million Series B led by Summit Partners. The company says over a million businesses in 170-plus countries use it.

Is Manychat free?

Yes. The Free plan costs nothing and needs no card, but it covers only 25 active contacts a month, two channels, up to four active automations and a “Powered by Manychat” label. There’s no AI and no broadcasts. That is enough to learn the builder and run one small comment-to-DM flow.

How much does Manychat cost per month?

Pro, the first plan with AI and broadcasts, costs $39 a month, or $29 a month if you pay $348 for the year. Here is the full ladder:

PlanMonthly billingAnnual billingActive contacts includedExtra contact (monthly / annual)
Free$0$025Not available
Essential$17$14 a month ($168 a year)250$0.10 / $0.082
Pro$39$29 a month ($348 a year)2,500$0.05 / $0.038
Business$99$69 a month ($828 a year)7,500$0.025 / $0.018
Advanced$199$139 a month ($1,668 a year)25,000$0.004 / $0.0028
Annual prices, allowances and overage rates from Manychat’s pricing page; Pro’s $39 from Manychat’s blog (19 August 2026). The pricing page text I could read showed only annual-billing prices, so the other monthly figures come from Featurebase’s tracker (updated 7 October 2026). Prices exclude tax.

Over a year, Pro on monthly billing comes to $468, which is $120 more than paying annually. Essential has no AI, so for most people the real choice is Pro. Essential and Pro come with a 14-day free trial; annual plans can’t be downgraded or switched to monthly until the term ends.

What does a viral Reel cost on Manychat?

More than the plan, quite possibly. Manychat now bills by active contacts: anyone who interacts with your account through Manychat in a billing month counts once, and the count resets each month. Go past your allowance and automations keep running while the overage meter runs too. My arithmetic, using the rates in the table:

People who interact in a monthPro, monthlyPro, annualBusiness, monthly
2,500$39$29$99
3,000$64$48$99
5,000$164$124$99
10,000$414$314$161.50
Plan price plus extra contacts at the published overage rate. Annual plans still bill overages monthly.

Past about 3,700 people a month, Business on monthly billing is cheaper than Pro. Manychat warns you at 70%, 90% and 100% of your allowance and lets you set an overage cap, including stopping new contacts entirely. Set that cap on day one. In September 2026 one user on Manychat’s own community forum complained that friends and family who simply DM them use up contacts even though they only run two keyword automations; nobody from Manychat had answered when I looked.

Why do so many reviews still say $15 a month?

Because they describe the old pricing. Before 2026, Pro started at $15 a month, was priced by total contacts and charged $29 a month extra for AI. Manychat’s blog says the change was announced in April 2026; Featurebase says new accounts got it from 2 March 2026 and older accounts move over country by country, so some long-time users still see the old plans. Contra’s guide to hiring Manychat freelancers, which I opened today, still quotes Pro “starting at $15/month.” If a page mentions the $29 AI add-on, it is out of date: AI now comes with Pro and above.

What can Manychat’s AI actually do?

It answers DMs for you, within limits you set. The pricing page describes it as teaching the AI about your business and tone so it can reply to messages and answer FAQs. The rest of Manychat is rule-based: comment and keyword triggers, story-reply automations, welcome messages, lead-capture questions, broadcasts on Pro and above, and a shared inbox for handing a chat to a human.

Integrations listed on Manychat’s site include Google Sheets, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Kit, Flodesk, Hotmart, Zapier and Make. If you already run automations elsewhere, my Make.com review covers what those scenarios cost in credits.

The AI terms (effective 24 November 2025) name OpenAI and Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service as providers. Manychat may use your inputs and outputs to improve its AI features, but says it contractually stops those providers from training on your content. Section 5 tells you to fact-check outputs before relying on them, which matters when a bot quotes prices to customers.

Is Manychat safe for client accounts and Instagram’s rules?

Yes, if the business owns the account and the flows stay inside Meta’s messaging rules. Section 3 of the Terms says the Business Owner is the “sole and exclusive account representative” when an agency sets up an account for them, so a freelancer should build inside the client’s account, not resell their own. Section 5 bans contacting anyone without consent, section 7 bans breaking Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp policies, and Manychat can limit or end your access if it believes you broke the agreement.

Meta’s rules shape every flow. A business can message someone for 24 hours after that person’s last interaction, promotional messages are allowed only inside that window, and the human-agent tag that stretches replies to seven days is for a real person replying, not for promotion. On Instagram, a comment trigger gets one private reply per comment within seven days, according to a guide by rival Kanal that cites Manychat’s help center. Your account also has to be a Business or Creator account.

Does Manychat give refunds?

Possibly, within 30 days, but the documents disagree. The pricing page FAQ says that if it has been under 30 days since you bought your plan, you can cancel and get a refund. Section 10 of the Terms says refunds apply only if Manychat stops providing the service, and “You won’t be entitled to a refund from us under any other circumstances.” If you want your money back, ask support in writing inside the 30 days and quote the pricing page.

Why is Manychat rated 2.1 on Trustpilot but 4.6 on Capterra?

Different people leave reviews in each place. On 21 October 2026 Trustpilot showed a TrustScore of 2.1 from 303 reviews, with 45% one-star and 39% five-star, and it said the company hasn’t replied to negative reviews. The recent complaints, from June to September 2026, are about surprise charges linked to contact counts, cancellations, slow support, account restrictions and keyword triggers that don’t fire.

G2 showed 4.5 out of 5 from 165 reviews and Capterra 4.6 from 72, with ease of use at 4.4 and customer service at 4.0. Capterra reviewers praise the drag-and-drop builder and lead capture, and complain about cost, support and dependence on Meta’s changing rules. Business-software sites skew towards people who stayed; Trustpilot skews towards people who got billed.

Strengths and sore spots

Strengths

  • A free plan that runs real automations
  • Comment-to-DM and keyword flows work from templates
  • AI replies included from Pro, no separate add-on
  • Integrates with Sheets, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Zapier and Make
  • Overage alerts and a spending cap you can set

Sore spots

  • Contact overages can outrun the plan price
  • Monthly billing costs a third more than annual on Pro
  • Refund wording conflicts between pricing page and Terms
  • Trustpilot 2.1, no replies to negative reviews
  • Every flow depends on Meta’s rules staying put

Should you pay for Manychat?

Pay for Pro on annual billing if comments and DMs already bring in sales and your monthly reach is predictable. At $348 a year it replaces hours of copy-pasting links, and the AI is now included. Stay on Free if you’re testing an idea, and look at Inro or Chatfuel if your traffic is spiky and you’d rather not watch a contact meter. Whatever you choose, set the overage cap before you post the Reel.

Turning Manychat setups into paid work

Plenty of small businesses want comment-to-DM funnels and don’t want to build them. My earning guide covers what Fiverr sellers charge, a worked month in numbers, and the account and consent rules to follow when the funnel belongs to a client.

Manychat questions people search for

Is Manychat free?

Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and needs no card, but it covers only 25 active contacts a month, two channels and four active automations, with Manychat branding and no AI.

How much does Manychat Pro cost?

$39 a month on monthly billing or $29 a month billed annually ($348 a year), including 2,500 active contacts. Extra contacts cost $0.05 each on monthly billing or $0.038 on annual.

What counts as an active contact in Manychat?

A real person who interacts with your account through Manychat during a billing month, counted once however many messages they send. The count resets each month, and at least one user says ordinary DMs from friends also count.

Does Manychat include AI?

Yes, on Pro, Business and Advanced at no extra cost. Free and Essential have no AI, and the old $29-a-month AI add-on belongs to legacy plans.

Is Manychat safe for my Instagram account?

Yes, as long as your flows follow Meta’s messaging rules. You need a Business or Creator account, promotional messages must go out within 24 hours of the person’s last interaction, and Meta can restrict accounts that send automated messages too fast.

Can I get a refund from Manychat?

Possibly, if you ask within 30 days. The pricing page promises a refund in that window, but the Terms say no refunds except when Manychat stops the service, so ask in writing and quote the pricing page.
