The realistic way to make money with Manychat is to build comment-to-DM and FAQ automations inside small businesses’ own Manychat accounts, then charge a small monthly fee to keep them working. Fiverr starter packages I checked on 21 October 2026 sell for $15 to $100, while Contra’s hiring guide puts small lead-capture projects at $500 to $1,500. This is client service work with a learning curve, not a bot that earns while you sleep, and the partner program is a side line rather than the plan.
The short version
Manychat side income at a glance
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Method | DM funnels built in the client’s own Manychat account, plus a monthly care plan |
| Startup cost | $0: practise on the Free plan (25 active contacts, 4 automations) |
| Your cost per job | Your hours; the client pays their own plan, usually Pro at $29 a month billed annually or $39 monthly |
| What clients pay | Fiverr starter packages $15 to $100; Contra’s guide: $500 to $1,500 for small lead-capture projects, $1,000 to $3,000 a month for retainers |
| Income | Not guaranteed |
Before you sell it, read my Manychat review: the per-contact billing explained there is what your clients will ask you about first.
What can you actually sell with Manychat?
Four things, and only the first two are worth building a business on.
| Method | Who pays | Price signal I found | Effort | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Custom DM funnel for a local business | Shops, salons, coaches, course sellers | $500 to $1,500 per small project (Contra guide) | Medium | Best starting point |
| Monthly care plan | The same clients | $50 a month maintenance add-on on one Fiverr gig; $1,000 to $3,000 retainers for bigger scopes (Contra) | Low once built | Where steady income comes from |
| Fiverr setup gigs | Creators wanting one automation | $15, $25, $40 and $100 starter packages | Low per gig, high volume | Fine for practice and reviews |
| Partner program referrals | Manychat | 30% to 50% for 12 months | Low | A bonus, not a plan |
How does a comment-to-DM build work for a client?
You agree one goal, build one flow that serves it, and hand over an account the client controls. A typical delivery:
- Agree the goal in one sentence, such as “people who comment PRICE on a Reel get the price list and a booking link.”
- Have the client create the Manychat account and connect their Instagram Business or Creator account, then invite you. Section 3 of Manychat’s Terms makes the business owner the account representative.
- Build the trigger, the first private reply and a short follow-up that asks one question, so the 24-hour messaging window opens.
- Add lead capture into a Google Sheet, HubSpot or Klaviyo, all listed Manychat integrations.
- If the client is on Pro, train the AI on their real FAQs and prices, then test it with awkward questions.
- Set the overage cap in the account and show the client where the contact meter sits.
- Hand over a one-page note: what each flow does, what it costs per extra contact, and how to switch it off.

Where do you find businesses that need this?
Look for accounts already drowning in comments. A local shop whose Reels say “comment for the price” and then reply by hand hours later is a better lead than a business with no audience, because the funnel can only speed up demand that exists. Message five such businesses a week with a two-line note on the specific post you’d automate. Upwork and Fiverr both have Manychat categories, and a few cheap Fiverr jobs can buy you your first reviews. Clients who also want their leads routed into other apps are a natural upsell, covered in my Make.com earning guide.
What could one month look like?
A worked month, in numbers
Say you land 2 funnel builds at $500 each, the bottom of Contra’s small-project range, and 4 clients pay $50 a month for a care plan, the add-on price one Fiverr seller lists. I’ve assumed 10 hours per build and 1 hour a month per care client.
- Income: 2 × $500 + 4 × $50 = $1,200
- Hours: 2 × 10 + 4 × 1 = 24
- Your Manychat cost: $0, because each client pays for their own plan
- Before tax and platform fees: $1,200 ÷ 24 = $50 an hour
The same month built on Fiverr volume, 8 gigs at $100 taking 3 hours each, works out to $33.33 an hour before Fiverr’s cut. These are examples, not forecasts of what you will earn.
Is the Manychat partner program worth joining?
It’s worth joining only if you’ll mention Manychat anyway. The program runs on PartnerStack and pays 30% recurring for 12 months on your first 30 paid sign-ups, 40% from 31 to 200, and 50% after that, paid by Stripe or PayPal on the 13th of the following month. A referral counts only if they upgrade to Pro within 90 days, and your link has to be the last one they click. At 30%, one client on Pro monthly would earn you about $140.40 over the year, or $104.40 on annual billing, before any adjustments for refunds or tax. If you set up a client through your own link, tell them.
Can you sell cheap Fiverr setups instead?
You can, but the price floor is low. The four gigs I opened offered starter packages at $15 (one day), $25 (one keyword flow, two days), $40 (three days) and $100 (welcome message plus three FAQs, three days); the $100 gig was on hold. That market suits a few early reviews. I doubt a buyer shopping at $15 is the one who later pays for a monthly care plan, so I would move to direct clients once you have three or four examples to show.

Which rules can get you or your client in trouble?
- Account ownership. Build in the client’s account. The Terms make the business owner the account representative and say accounts aren’t transferable.
- Consent. Section 5 bans contacting anyone without consent, and section 8 makes you responsible for SMS opt-in.
- Meta’s messaging window. Promotional messages only within 24 hours of the person’s last interaction; the human-agent tag is for real staff replies, never promotion.
- One private reply per comment. On Instagram a comment trigger gets one DM, within seven days of the comment, until the person replies.
- Reviews. The FTC’s rule on fake reviews bans paying for reviews that express a particular sentiment, so a flow can ask for honest reviews but never offer a reward only for positive ones.
- AI honesty. Manychat’s AI terms bar trying to mislead anyone that output was “solely human generated”; don’t sign bot replies with a staff member’s name.
Mistakes that sink a DM funnel
Promising sales numbers you can’t control. Forgetting the overage cap before a client’s Reel takes off; on Pro monthly, 10,000 people in a month costs $414. Building on your own account and “lending” it to clients. Writing a first DM so long that nobody replies, which means the 24-hour window never opens and your follow-ups can’t go out.
Good match, poor match
Good match: you like tidy logic, can write short persuasive messages, and know local businesses that already get comments and DMs on Instagram.
Poor match: you want income without clients, dislike support questions, or would rather not depend on Meta changing its rules.
Note: the figures here are examples, not income claims, and your results depend on your skills, market and effort. Platform rules change, and this is not legal advice. I don’t earn a commission from Manychat.
